Ismaili Documentary Photography

Documentary wedding photography is my style of wedding photography where I am to capture candid and natural moments from the wedding day. The goal for me is to document the emotions, reactions, and interactions of the wedding guests and the couple in a natural way, which creates a story-telling atmosphere that can be relived for years to come.

Documentary wedding photographers typically work in a photojournalistic style, blending in with the crowd, being unobtrusive and capturing moments as they happen. I focus on capturing the candid moments of the wedding day, such as the bride getting ready, the groom waiting in anticipation, and the emotional reactions of guests during the ceremony. I also capture the candid moments between guests and couple during the reception, such as the speeches, dances, and other formal events that happen during the wedding day.

The documentary approach to wedding photography can be contrasted with the traditional or posed style of wedding photography, which focuses on creating posed and formal portraits of the bride and groom. I however will take some posed shots, and of course group family photos but my main focus is on capturing the candid moments that happen throughout the day.

Documentary wedding photography can be a great choice for couples who want to have a true and honest representation of their wedding day, and who want to remember the emotions and moments of the day as they happened.

My style is a unique and personal way to capture the true essence of a wedding day, and create a story-telling atmosphere that can be relived for years to come.

The Ismaili Nikah Ceremony

The Nikah ceremony is the Islamic marriage ceremony, which is the legal contract that formalises the union between a man and woman. The word “Nikah” means “marriage” in Arabic. The ceremony is conducted by an imam or religious leader, and is attended by the couple, their families and friends.

The Nikah ceremony typically begins with a short recitation from the Qur’an, which is followed by a brief talk by the imam on the significance of marriage in Islam. The couple then exchanges their vows, and the imam asks both parties to confirm their willingness to enter into the marriage. The couple will also have to pay a dower (Mahr) which is a gift from the groom to the bride, and is a symbolic gesture that signifies the groom’s commitment to the bride.

After the couple has exchanged their vows, the imam will ask for two witnesses to sign the marriage contract. The witnesses can be anyone from the couple’s family or friends who are Muslims. Once the contract is signed, the imam will recite a prayer for the couple’s happiness and success in their marriage.

The Nikah ceremony is a relatively short and simple ceremony, but it is a significant and meaningful event that marks the beginning of a new life together for the couple and their families. It is also considered a legal contract, which means that the marriage is recognised by the state and the couple can enjoy the legal rights and benefits of marriage.

The Nikah ceremony is an important aspect of Ismaili and Muslim culture, and it is usually followed by a reception or a series of celebrations, which may include traditional customs, music, and food.
