If you’re looking for a destination wedding in Greece without having to take everyone out to one of the islands, Island Resort Athens Riviera is pretty hard to beat.

Set on the coast in Varkiza, south of Athens, Island has that unmistakable Greek summer feeling — blue water, rocky coastline, warm evenings and open-air spaces overlooking the sea. It feels like you’ve escaped to a Greek island, while still having Athens within easy reach.

As a wedding photographer, it’s also a dream to photograph. There’s beautiful Mediterranean light throughout the day, the coastline gives you an incredible backdrop for portraits, and once the sun disappears, the whole atmosphere of the venue changes.

And this is where Island really comes alive.

It’s a venue already known for its dining, nightlife and parties, so it lends itself perfectly to couples who want their wedding to feel less formal and more like an incredible night in Greece with everyone they love.

Callum and Jasmine’s wedding was exactly that. Beautiful weather, amazing Greek food, emotional and hilarious speeches, followed by a completely packed dance floor that carried on until 3am.

Why get married on the Athens Riviera?

One of the best things about an Athens Riviera wedding is that you get two very different sides of Greece in one trip.

You have Athens and all of its history, restaurants and energy, but head south and the city gradually gives way to beaches, marinas, turquoise water and coastal towns. The Riviera stretches south from Athens towards Cape Sounion, so guests can easily turn your wedding into a few days exploring this part of Greece.

It makes Island Resort particularly good for a destination wedding where guests are travelling internationally. They can experience Athens without giving up that relaxed, Mediterranean wedding-by-the-sea feeling.

From a wedding photography perspective, what I love most about Palazzo Brancaccio is how the grandeur of the venue becomes part of the storytelling. My approach is predominantly documentary, capturing real moments, reactions and emotion as they naturally happen, and there is something amazing about photographing those intimate human moments against such impressive surroundings. The doorways, mirrors, staircases and beautiful rooms also create endless opportunities for more editorial wedding portraits without needing to take couples away from their guests for long.

And then Palazzo Brancaccio completely transforms once the party begins. Seeing a dance floor full of family and friends going absolutely wild inside an ornate Roman palace is exactly the kind of contrast I love to photograph.
